massive powerup

Dear Costmiku and RootSourceCC users, we’d like to announce that we have made some MASSIVE changes to both Costmiku and RootSourceCC. Let’s dive into them:

1. New costmiku homepage

The new costmiku.space homepage no longer uses WordPress (although the Raíz1 as of now still does…), but rather Zola! (With the Ametrine theme, just like RootSourceCC)

The only key difference is that it uses the flat and sidebar pill mod, so it may look a bit different to RSCC:

RootSourceCC website, almost default Ametrine.
costmiku website, modified Ametrine

Zola is generally just faster than WordPress, with faster compile times and less risk of vulnerability issues :^)

2. Anubis

We have installed Anubis on Alpsource so far, making this appear before leading you to the main website straight away:

Anubis is a great open source tool to verify incoming HTTP requests with proof-of-work, which is helpful for stopping AI crawlers and/or maybe other types of bot that could potentially have suspicious intent.

3. Security in costmikuCloud

After so many months of deciding and hesitating, costmikuCloud is going encrypted as of the 24th of April!!

In addition, costmikuCloud also has bruteforce prevention/protection, slowing the attacker’s internet traffic to costmikuCloud down for up to 24 hours, or in some extreme cases outright blocking the connection to costmiku for 30 minutes. This helps against attackers trying to bruteforce into users’ accounts by trying to crack it, or trying to find a token some way.

4. Hajiku registrations open

You can now finally register on RootSourceCC’s Fedi instance, Hajiku!

It took us long enough to set everything up, but we ended up somehow still doing it in the end

5. Deprecating Google Forms

We realised that if we want to be an alternative to Google, we can’t put our registration form on their platforms.

We decided to save the existing entries into a spreadsheet and moved the sign up form to costmikuCloud.

This helps us enforce our true goal more.

What’s next?

Technically, “costmiku v4” is still in progress, and there’s still so much to do and move, but we’ve had some things done at least!

Thank you for reading this, and I wish you a great time, depending on what time of the day it is for you.
